I believe that there is value in research and development that can make people feel hopeful about the future, or feel happy and enjoy themselves, even if it is not something that is instantly useful. I want to be sensitive to the direction in which the world is going, taking the ideas in my head and making them into visible and workable forms, not just scribbled on paper or stored in computers. Also, I want to talk about these ideas with many people outside of my lab and office when possible, and feed ideas back into our research and development.
